Are you like me and perhaps may be going to more than one event, holiday party, or gathering this year?
The jingle and mingle part of the parties may not come as easy to some, and I wanted to create a list of questions that you can use to break the ice and/or to ease the nerves when facing new waters (AKA people). I am personally a very social person, but I do find some people are easier to talk to than others, and this is all due to our very unique personality traits, behaviors, and characteristics. So, don’t take it too hard on yourself if you are facing very different conversations that may not be easy to navigate. Been there, done that.
I’ll also share a few photos below from my Xmas party outfit which I was hoping someone would understand where my inspiration was from, but alas, no one did, maybe you will. 😉
Withour further ado, here are the questions/topics to dive into with new and familiar faces (with perhaps a glass of wine in hand if you need extra support):
- “So, what do you do at X company?”
- “Do you have any plans for the holidays?”
- If they talk about a trip, maybe ask what made them choose their planned destination.
- This could also be a good time to ask them about the different places they’ve travelled to and/or wish to travel to.
- If they talk about relaxing and staying home, maybe ask what they like to do for fun or to unwind.
- “I love your [outfit, jewerly, bag, you choose], may I ask where you got it from?”
- “It’s been a while since I’ve been to a party this size, what was the last party you went to?”
- “I was thinking of grabbing a drink too, what are you drinking?”
- This may get you a wide variety of answers, so be ready for it.
- Ask them if they had to drive or transit out to the party. Normally, terrible traffic conditions and weather can get us all to relate.
- “If you had to choose your favourite dish/appetizer tonight, what would it be?”
- “How do you feel about 2024 coming to a close?” or you may ask, “What are you looking forward to in 2025?”
- If you had to choose between holiday movies or holiday music, which would it be and why? Depending on the answer, you can follow up with, “Which holiday movie or song do you recommend?”
- “What is one thing you’ve learned this year and plan to take with you into 2025?”
I’ve gone to two holiday parties so far and I decided to go all out and wear all red this year. Can anybody guess where I got my inspo from? Please, It’s killing me that no one immediately guessed where I got my inspo from.

If you have questions that you believe should be asked at a holiday party, let me know.
Enjoy the gatherings!
Your everyday girl,
Sara
