There’s no better place to put it.
Every day you think of the past, is an additional day you’ve spent holding on.
Holding on requires strength. Strength that shouldn’t be wasted.
Holding on means you’re flirting with regret.
Flirting with regret won’t end well.
Let the past act as a place you once lived in. Not a place to remain.
Let the past play as a memory, distant and nostalgic. Or maybe distant and unsentimental. There’s no need to hit rewind.
Your past, whether it was good or bad, can make the present ugly.
You’ll wonder why today isn’t as good as it used to be. You’ll wonder why it was never good. You’ll wonder why it’s not good enough.
Don’t. stay. there.
Illuminate the present with reflections, don’t hurt it with regret.
Don’t linger near dark places, it makes it easier to fall.
But if you happen to trace old steps, remember to look up at the sky where light lives. It will lead you back.
Choose the present. Choose it every day.
That’s how I leave my shit behind.
Your everyday girl,
Sara
