It is 100% raining outside in grey Vancouver, B.C today. Maybe I should say 99% raining to avoid any liabilities with exact percentages. So, it’s 99% raining and there may be a chance that some areas aren’t experiencing as much rain as we are in the city centre.
It’s Tuesday and I keep thinking it’s Monday. This is definitely going to be a very long week.
Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day, please keep your clouds at bay.
Okay, you see why we Vancouverites always make small talk about the weather and ONLY the weather? It’s this never ending topic that is infused into our existence over the many long years of rain. They don’t call it “Raincouver” for no reason.
But when the sun peeks out through the clouds, it’s over y’all. We are outside soaking up (and storing) as much vitamin D as we possibly can. You’ll see girls wearing their most summery outfit and guys on runs without their shirts, restaurant balconies will actually be busy, and you can even heard the birds chirping as clear as day.
Anyways, this is how impactful the rain is. So much that I am still writing about it.
Should I move on? Let’s move on.
Here’s how my weekend went:
I’m reading a book which I highly recommend, Drive Your Bones Over The Plow of The Dead by Olga Tokarczuk. Yes, Dua Lipa and Service95 inspired me and so I’m reading it. I highly recommending following Service95 if you don’t know what to read – every book recommendation has been perfect.

My sister and I got to visit good friends who recently adopted a 3 year old cat. I love dogs, but if I ever got a pet it would most likely be a cat. I like their independent lifestyle.

Had a White Lotus party with my sister and a good friend. We ended up celebrating the season finale with a party theme called “Parthai” since this season took place in Thailand. Get it? “Party” and “Thai” jumbled together is “Parthai”. We had Thai food, Thai drinks and snacks, and I made a spotify playlist perfect for any party really.

Lastly (but most importantly), my sister started watching the new Devil May Cry animated series on Netflix and I was present for some of it. In one part of the show, a group of refugees leave their own world that has completely deserted them (and is destroying them) for another to live in freely, but instead are met with disaster in this new world.
Violence only breeds more violence. It takes conversation and time to unite, but it only takes one violent act to breed long lasting hate, from one generation to the next. This is the state of our world.
All I have to worry about is rain and our ridiculous economy. We have others on this planet who have to worry about war and violence and freedom, so weather is the least of their worries.
We’re really good at looking away. Our minds are so busy with trivial things that we don’t seem to comprehend or care about the everyday reality of those who live in areas with conflict. All I ever hear is, “I can’t do anything”, “It’s not up to me”, or “It is what it is”. I wish we knew the collective power we have as humans and the strength we share when we choose love.
I don’t know where we’ll go from here, but I wish it were forward. Truthfully it feels like we are moving backwards.
Your everyday girl,
-Sara
